Give your horse a voice
Infrared thermography is a safe viable photographic
tool to help highlight possible problems, in some instances weeks before the
onset of lameness, in horses. This is done without any contact to the horse or side effects.
In mammals there is normally a high degree of thermal symmetry in the body,
therefore abnormal or asymmetrical patterns are usually indicative of a problem.
Infrared scanning does not act as a diagnostic modality alone but is widely
used to localize the area for which further investigations such as x-ray or
ultrasounds can be used to confirm a diagnosis.
IR scanning helps you to isolate the area where the horse is feeling the discomfort,
or where a problem may be developing, before the horse begins going lame and
it does it instantly without even touching the horse. It is completely non
invasive. As with so many things in life today we can experience instant gratification
with it.
Infrared thermography is a tool that deals mainly with the physiology of the
horse and not the anatomical issues.
Equine Thermography can identify and detect many different issues
on a horse very often weeks before they become chronic such as:
- abscesses
- back problems
- hoof balance
- inflammation
- joint injury
- laminitis
- ligament problems
- navicular syndrome
- saddle fitment
- soft tissue damage
- tendon damage
- Rehabilitation: • See if the treatment the horse is
receiving is working. Observe the progress of your horse’s recovery virtually
in real time.
- Saddle fitment: The wrong saddle fit is like a human
wearing the wrong size shoes, uncomfortable and painful. With Infrared
scanning we can see the pressure points immediately as we scan both the
horse’s back and the underside of the saddle. Remember a horse’s body
changes shape too and a saddle needs adjustment from time to time to maintain
the correct fit.
